Treat Someone this World Kindness Day
It’s coming up to Friday 13th folks! Don’t be scared though, because this one is rather special. Friday 13th November 2020 is World Kindness Day.
An officially recognised day to stress the importance of being kind. Kind to yourself, kind to each other, and kind to those around you.
And one of the best things about kindness is... it doesn’t have to cost a thing!
It can be as easy as giving out a smile or a compliment. It’s a known fact that smiling is wonderfully infectious! And you never know how much difference you could make to someone’s day by just smiling at them – especially right now.
What is World Kindness Day?
World Kindness Day was started in 1998 with the simple objective to ‘spread kindness with small gestures.’
The World Kindness Movement made the “pledge to join together to build a kinder more compassionate world.”
Since then, it has spread and become globally recognised, encouraging anything from sharing a smile, kindness cards, gifts, flash mobs, and concerts.
What Can You do to Support World Kindness Day?
Random Act of Kindness
Everyone loves an unexpected gesture of kindness, and like I said, you don’t have to spend all your hard-earned cash.
It can be anything from helping with the household chores, shopping for someone who can’t get out right now, cleaning their car. Just be nice!
And if you’re looking to involve your little ones, see if they can get through the day without a squabble!
Phone Call or Socially Distanced Visit
Now is more difficult than ever to surprise friends or family with a visit. So why not text them, pick up the phone, hop on a Zoom or face time with them.
They could be lonely, and you might be the only person they speak to today. Reach out to someone and stay connected, it could mean the world to them. Even if it's just one day, let World Kindness Day make a difference.
Do Something for Yourself
Are you feeling stressed or fed up with everything around you? Then take some time out for yourself.
I read the other day that even sitting in your car on the drive is a form of self-care. Take a long bath. Read a book. Listen to your favourite music or catch up on your favourite TV programme.
Do it – be kind to yourself. If you’re not at your best, you won’t be able to help others.
Another great thing about being kind is that it makes you feel good, as well as the person on the receiving end. Spirits are lifted, and once you are in a great mood, it will spread to those around you too.
World Kindness Day surprise gift
Our lives are so different this year. It’s not as easy to stay in touch with each other, but it's great to see you are still finding special ways to show your loved ones you’re here for them.
Especially since Lockdown began, we’ve been sending more gifts to your family and friends all over the world. We've helped you celebrate births and birthdays. We have sent mugs and bottles with your names and photos on. And we continue to create awesome final touches for your cakes and cookies!
The fact that you have thought about someone at that moment can mean so much to them. And we love being a part of it.
Long may it continue!
It shouldn't take one special day to think about being kind. But let’s all try and make the world a little bit better by treating someone this World Kindness Day!
Take care,
Ryan
